About GFXmonkey

GFXmonkey is my online moniker for the past 30 years. It started as a joke when I was working at Netscape in the mid 90s. The idea was that I was a "Graphics Monkey" who could keep slamming out the web work. Monkey was a tongue-in-cheek pejorative, referring to how crazy busy the first Internet boom was in Silicon Valley. In 80s & 90s computer parlance, GFX was short for "Graphics," and often used in the Demoscene, a subculture I was really into at the time.

Original logo style

Over the years it got refined into the version of the logo you see today. The tagline I added read, "Navigating the Jungle of Design," a hint to the browser wars of the late 90s, early 2000s, where Netscape "navigated" the Web (we capitalized it back then), while Internet Explorer "explored" it.
