Digital Figure Drawing

Yours truly, creating a digital figure drawing on a Motion TabletPC.

A snapshot in time of me drawing at my wife's studio in early 2013. Man, how time has flown by. I had bought a cheap Motion Computing tablet to use as my TabletPC of choice. This thing was a cool device, but sluggish with a Core Solo processor and a 1.8" PATA HD. Still, it had Wacom EMR and a cool docking station and ran Win8 relatively well. The aspect ratio was 4:3.

In the photo above, this is the piece I was drawing that day.

Anyway, this was me drawing at a Figure Drawing group that we ran at my wife's studio on the weekend. We'd bring beer and wine and folks would bring snacks. Life drawing is challenging, but forces you to look at shape, structure, and line. My stuff has this sort of style that emerged in me when I was in college. It's funky, but I try to embrace it. I should also say that it's really fun. It's challenging, but really rewarding, and forces you to keep your skills up.

Drawing from life, digitally, was a challenge when the tools were limited. I often had to be near an outlet, so I could charge my tablet to make it through the full session. Even with the extra battery, 3 hours was tough on those old devices.
